Saving Main Street Rally

You may not realize it, but some of the businesses hardest hit by the recession are the ones that had nothing to do with the greed responsible for this economic mess. Little mom and pop places with limited funds are being gobbled up by huge corporate chains with millions of dollars behind them.

America will eventually emerge from this recession, but there’s no guarantee your neighbor’s flower shop or the little restaurant down the street will survive.

Nowhere is this more apparent than on Main Street, American Fork. This charming downtown area is distinguished by small, independently owned businesses that add quality and character to the community.

And so, as concerned citizens of Utah Valley, we are launching a fight for the very soul of our community. We are saving Main Street.

And we need your help.

On Saturday, February 28, from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. we will be hosting a Saving Main Street rally at Flour Girls and Dough Boys Bakery.

This scratch bakery, which specializes in quality artisan bread and delectable pastries, is a priceless gem in Utah Valley. They use as many Utah-made ingredients as they can, they frequently donate to local causes and they even recycle! But with Paradise Bakery, a large corporate chain, competing for customers just down the street, we are at risk of losing this valuable institution forever.

The goal of the rally on the 28th is to raise awareness of the struggles local businesses are going through, and to give a much-needed boost to the bakery. In addition to their bread and pastries, they serve scrumptious soup, salads, sandwiches and Panini’s, so come with an appetite!

The rally will feature local bands, other small Main Street businesses and general, family-friendly merriment.

If you don’t want to see Utah Valley lose its soul, then come and bring all your friends! More information will be posted on this site in coming days. Thanks!
